Habits are an important part of everyone’s life. Without them, it is hard to get to work on time, plan your lessons for the week, and go for regular dental checkups. The habits that concern us at the Young Adult Borough Center are the habits of mind we want for our students. One of the ways we will do this is by Organizing for Effort, the first of the Principles of Learning.Our belief is that students, staff, parents, and members of community organizations must work together in a family type atmosphere that emphasizes support, collaboration, and achievement. Through rigorous academic course work and a variety of co-curricular activities, we will be able to offer students opportunities to improve in mind, body, and spirit so that each may reach his/her maximum potential as an individual and community member.As educators we must be committed to providing our students with rich and meaningful experiences that prepare them for success in college and career, as well as for fulfilling personal relationships. At the core of our educational philosophy is the use of teaching practices and curricula that enables students to construct meaning. We believe that success is demonstrated through a variety of methods, such as student projects, portfolios, performances, examinations, and active participation in classroom activities.It is imperative that we organize our students to acquire knowledge in ways that foster skills that are relevant in the workplace, as through the use of project-based learning and cooperative learning structures, simulation exercises, and broad participation in field experiences and internships. We must foster trust, respect, honesty, and responsibility as personal characteristics and expect all members of our school community to demonstrate these attributes in their daily behaviors, attitudes, and dispositions.We have high expectations for all students and are committed to recognizing student’s needs, wants, and goals and supporting students in their efforts to be successful. In order for a school to be successful we must work together as a faculty and greater school community to advance the interests of our students, emphasizing collegiality and good faith in our relationships, and reaching decisions through consensus.

In closing, we are dedicated educators who believe every student can be a success story.
