We have been reading Baby Girl by Lenora Adams for a couple of weeks now.  Sheree has run away from home and is writing a letter to her mother.

1.  Sheree tells her mother that she could not get over the fact that mother told her to “forget about it”. What happened to Sheree and how did her mother react?

2.  Angie is dating Raheem. Why does Sheree tell Angie to leave him? Why does Angie’s father want her to stop seeing him?

3. Why is Sheree dating Damon? What do you think about Raheem and Damon?

4. Why did Sheree run away from her mother?

5. In part II mother writes back? What does she say to Sheree? What do you think of her response?

    1. She was raped, and her mother acted like nothing happened and wanted her to continue on with life. When Sheree decided to run away and write that letter to her mother, she wanted to let her mother know what was on her mind about the situation.

  2. martis Says:

Sheree left because of her mother’s smoking and sexual behaviors. She also felt it was time for her to leave and move on because of her pregnancy. Their life styles made her very uncomfortable.

    1. Sheree was raped by one of the “friends” that her mother had over one night and he told her that it was Sheree’s fault because she tempted him and told him she wanted it and Sheree’s mom believed him and smacked her and told her to forget about it after she kicked the guy out.
    2. Sheree tells Angie to leave Raheem because she believes that he is only using Angie for her money, she believes that you shouldnt be with a guy who doesnt have any money or a job. Angie’s father want her to stop seeing him because he thinks he is trouble, that he is too ghetto and will only cause problems for angie
    3. Sheree is dating Damon because he gives her mone when she wants it. also partly because she thinks he looks good with the fancy way he dresses and such. i think both Raheem and Damon both are bad guys. both cheat and both use the girls whether its Raheem using Angie for money or Damon using Sheree for sex.
    4. Sheree ran away from her mother for one because she got pregnant with Damons baby also because she felt like she could no longer live in the conditions her mother put her in with the men that she brought home and such
    5. in part II Sheree’s mother basically explains to share that she understands her side and she tells her all the experiences she went through herself to make her act or feel the way she did and how she see’s herself in sheree when it came to their attitude towards men. she tells her that she always cared and always wanted to be there for sheree and that sheree should come home because she wanted to help her.
i think her response was sincere and i could understand her point of view it was just that circumstances in her life made her not able to really see her daughter and wat her daughter was dealing with and becoming.

    1) Sheree was raped by one of her mother guy friend that she had over one night. He told Sheree’s mom that it was Sheree’s fault because Sheree tempted him and told him she wanted it.Sheree’s mom believed him and smacked her and told her to forget bout it after she kicked the guy out.

    2) Sheree tells Angie to leave Raheem because she believes that he is only using Angie for her money. She believes that you shouldn’t be with a guy who can’t support her financially . Angie’s father wants her to stop seeing him because he thinks he is trouble and that he is too ghetto and will only cause trouble for Angie

    3) Sheree is dating Damon because he gives her money when she needs it. She also thinks he looks good with the way he dresses and such. I think both Raheem and Damon both are bad guys. Both cheat and both use the girls whether it’s Raheem using Angie for money or Damon using Sheree for sex.

    4) Sheree ran away from her mother for one because she got pregnant with Damon’s baby also because she felt like she could no longer live in the conditions her mother put her in with the men that she brought home .

    5) In part II Sheree’s mother tells Sheree that she understands her side and she tells her all the experiences she went through herself to make her act or feel the way she did and how she sees herself in Sheree when it came to their attitude towards men. She tells her that she always cared and always wanted to be there for Sheree and that Sheree should come home because she wanted to help her. I think Sheree’s mother response to her was very understanding, but the circumstances that she put Sheree through were not right. She should have been more of a mother than a friend.
