Aim High and Rise Up

I truly love what I do at the moment. It’s all about the people, positive energy/vibes and impact. Whether it’s in a community, in an auditorium, in a classroom, in a home, the energy that we are trying to bring to 2019 is special. Many blessings to Sherman Browne for your talk today and Martin Smallhorne for making it all happen. “All we do is win”

YABC 100 Suits

Special thanks to Kevin Livingston, CEO of 100 SUITS  for sharing his journey with us and donating over $20,000 worth of ties to our Lehman YABC program. Giorgio Armani and Hugo Boss ties all worth $195 and up were distributed to our young scholars. The result of our young scholars wearing shirts and ties has resulted in our you men being about business, looking amazing, displaying a sense of pride and feeling confident. This has eliminated physical altercations in our program in the past 10 years. Special thanks to Kevin Livingston for helping our students suit up and inspiring them to strive for greatness.

Cancer Awareness Day 2018

October provides many opportunities for breast cancer awareness outreach. On October 22, 2018 YABC engaged the school community with fun and educational activities. We tabled and gave out information provided by the New York Department of Health on the topic of breast cancer. We played music, took pictures, gave out ribbons, stickers, and pens. Many students and staff wore pink in support of the cause. YABC made sure to spread awareness and unite in the fight for a cure.

To celebrate our student’s success, YABC Lehman and East Side House held our annual end term BBQ in their honor. One of  Mr. Smallhorne’s favorite quotes is “Though no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.” This being said, many of our graduating seniors have struggled and overcome overwhelming obstacles in their lives. Despite it all they will all soon be High School graduates and on their way to making a brand new start. Words can not explain how proud we are of you all and all of the hard work you have done. Congrats Let’s party!!

Voter Registration Town Hall:

As part of the Chancellor’s Student Voter Registration Day, YABC students registered to vote this week. Many YABC students are of age or will turning 18 before December 2018 and therefore are eligible to register to vote. During the sign up event, East Side House Settlement staff discussed the importance of voting in local and federal elections. Many students registered to vote and do their civic duty.
