This program is a student-developed two component program that promotes youth empowerment of the students who engage in a peer education internship, as well as a nutrition education component in the classrooms that is led by the teen interns from each school.
This program is open to all high schools, including charter schools, who participate in the free/reduced lunch program with at least 50% of their student population eligible.
? Each school elects 3-5 students to participate. These students are trained in a one day training on January 26th to lead the in-class 6 session series covering nutrition topics (No cooking is involved) and students have the option of also participating in weekly meetings at the FB of NYC office.
? This is a paid internship for teens and Metrocards are provided for any transportation involved.
? The overall program goal is to empower the student interns in a peer educator model, as well as engage in nutrition education with as many students as possible in a way that is youth-led and interesting to teens.
EATWISE is currently accepting applications for the spring internship part of the program, due January 11th.This is a great opportunity for Lehman students and I’m sure they will benefit from this program tremondously. Please let me know of your interest in the program as soon as you can.
